What) In 1994, L.J. Maasdam built a towering sculpture of rusty wagon wheels, out in the middle of nowhere, when he was 90 years old.

"It's a little eerie having this bizarre and alien looking metal sculpture in the middle of a bunch of corn fields. There's a matching wheel fence and picnic table next to it too." Mary Norvell, 08/17/2010

"I used to live near the Maasdam farm. They grow sorghum and make syrup. The granddaughter of L. J. Maasdam told me that he had been collecting the wheels for years. When he decided to build the sculpture he would weld on it during the day. His kids stayed up at night and re-welded it, because he wasn't a very good welder. They never told him that they were re-doing his work." R. Schultz, 02/23/2012 (1)

Where) South 48th Avenue East take I-80 exit 179, drive south three miles and turn right (west) one mile.

Why) The small images that I had seen of this sculpture showed an alien beauty that I had to see for myself from a variety of angles. Basically, I made sure that our "optimal" route home from St. Louis to Regina went through Lynnville.

Here is the entire complex. Now, even though the light was good and the clouds were interesting I am ...

... still not entirely happy with how these images turned out. It is like ...

... I was unable to capture the essence of what I like about the place even though my pictures seem decent.

This one is as close as I can get. After that Pam and I had a photo contest.

She took three pictures of me on this bench before she got this good image. It only took me one try to get ...

... this image of Pam. Which of the two do you think turned out nicer?
