What) Just north of Waco, Texas in the Antiquibles Antique Mall lies what’s billed as the world’s largest dog collectibles museum. (The sign says “America’s largest” but indoors the museum proudly proclaims “world’s largest”…and it very well might be.) With over 7,000 items on display, this Texas-sized collection includes all things canine.

The collection began with the private collection of Barbara and David Hays who collected dog items on their travels; it later expanded and included the collection of Julia Speegle Hall, the aunt of director Ron Howard. The collection includes everything from toys from the Sixties to a rare 1700s gun stock with a carved dog head plus plenty of examples of dogs in advertising, dogs in popular culture and more. When you’re finished with the museum, have a look around the antiques mall, too; we found several booths selling dog collectibles. (1)

    Where) 94300 North Interstate 35   4 mi. north of Waco, I-35 Exit 345     Daily 10am - 6pm.    Free   1-254-829-1921

Why) On the surface this sounds like the perfect stop for a person who always seems to like any sort of art if it has an animal theme. However Pam really dislikes the sort of “junk” collections usually found in antique malls. I wonder which emotion will turn out to be the strongest at this place.

I kind of liked the look of the dogs on the sign and I thought it might be a good omen. (1)

However, to get to the museum in the back corner, we had to pass by rows and rows of "junk". (2)

By the time we got here, Pam's energy was low and she could not even see the beauty in ...

... this Lady and the Tramp poster. (3) (4) To be fair to her, the overwhelming majority of the dog displays were more like ...

... this. (2) So, I made it my goal to search among this stuff and find one item that Pam could not deny really liking.

When I found it, Pam did not cheer up but I am hoping that when she sees it in this context she can see experience it differently because ...

... I do know that this is how she felt when we left Antiquibles. (5)
