What) The Mike O'Callaghan - Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, the key component to the Hoover Dam Bypass project, was the first concrete-steel composite arch bridge built in the United States and it incorporates the longest concrete arch in the Western Hemisphere. Opened on October 19, 2010, the 4-lane highway bridge provides a crossing of the Colorado River for U.S. Route 93 1,600 feet downstream from the Hoover Dam. It is located approximately 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas. At 840 feet (260 m) above the Colorado River, the bridge is the second-highest in the United States. Built as part of the Hoover Dam Bypass Project, the bridge portion cost US$114 million. (1)

    Where) Hard to miss.

Why) When I visited the Hoover Dam previously this bridge did not exist. Now that it does I am here to drive across it and use that as an excuse to see if I can find some dramatic pictures to look at.

Driving across the bridge was the opposite of dramatic. In a way, what I could see of the bridge got in the way of the view from the bridge.

Thankfully, the internet can provide us with aerial views that I could never capture on my own. (2)

At least I was able to get this nice scenic shot as we drove off the bridge.
