What) Space aliens, bending their eye stalks Earthward, often mistake Newark, Ohio as the center of all world power. After all, it is in this modest city that humankind has erected the grandest monument to the highest pinnacle of achievement by an advanced consumer culture - the hand-woven gift basket. This monument is, in fact, the world's largest basket, and it's also the seven-story corporate headquarters of the Longaberger Basket Company. The basket is a replica - 160 times larger - of Longaberger's Medium Market Basket. It's 192 feet long by 126 feet wide at the bottom, spreading to 208 feet long by 142 feet wide at the roofline. It is a magnificent sight especially at night when it is illuminated. (1)

Where) 1500 East Main Street   On the south side of Highway 16 east of town.   Free.  1-740-322-5588

Why) Is it a sculpture or is it a building?  Does it really matter when we know that I enjoy both.

It's rare that a Buckys looks exactly like what you would expect but this one qualifies.

It also has a certain something that appeals to me.

That something didn't really lend itself to artistic views but I did make one attempt.

The inside might have been a bit more artistic but neither of us thought to go there. (2)

I did think about staying around to see the light show but it was late morning when we arrived so that wasn't an option. (3)
