What) Pike Place Market is a public market overlooking the Elliott Bay waterfront. The Market opened in 1907 and is one of the oldest continually operated public farmers' markets in the United States. Named after the central street, Pike Place runs northwest from Pike Street to Virginia Street, and remains one of Seattle's most popular tourist destinations with 10 million visitors annually.

The Market is built on the edge of a steep hill and consists of several lower levels located below the main entrance. Each features a variety of unique shops such as antique dealers, comic book sellers and small family-owned restaurants. The upper street level contains fishmongers, fresh produce stands and craft stalls operating in the covered arcades. Local farmers and craftspeople sell year-round in the arcades from tables they rent from the Market on a daily basis, in accordance with the Market's mission and founding goal: allowing consumers to "Meet the Producer".     Where) First Avenue and Pike Street    Open daily from 9am - 5 pm

Why) I decided to take a day off from bridge in the hopes that I would be sharp enough to win the Mini Blue Ribbon Pairs.  That plan failed spectacularly but I ended up having a wonderful day that generated three Buckys worth of material to show you.

I was walking to the market when someone on a street corner handed me this flyer for the market.

I was surprised I even noticed him because I usually keep my eyes on the ground so that ...

... I can see sights like these.

Fortunately, my nose was working well enough to lead me into a wonderful lunch at the Kastoori Grill.

After I finally made it to the market, I purchased these fused glass earrings by Kyle Kinsey as a birthday present for Pam. (2)

I also purchased this poster as a gift for myself.

It has a number of details that I enjoy.
