What) The First Unitarian Society of Madison commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright to design this sprawling suburban church in 1946 and participated in its construction. As a means of reducing costs, Society members hauled tons of stone for the thick walls from a nearby quarry and later helped construct furnishings and finish the interior. Two later additions were designed by Taliesin Associated Architects in 1964 and 1990.

Where) 900 University Bay Drive   1-608-238-1680  or  1-608-233-9774

Why) We were doing the Frank Lloyd Wright Buckys tour and Pam and I have both attended services at the Unitarian Center so it seemed like a natural choice.

The building had some unusual roof lines but nothing I really liked. (2)

I did enjoy this memorable shot of the back of the building but it wasn't good enough to convince Pam to come inside.

You can take a look at these two interior shots and see if she missed out. (2)

Personally, I enjoyed the experience of finally sitting by myself in a largely intact Wright designed interior space.
