What) The Crystal Cathedral is a Protestant Christian mega church in the city of Garden Grove, California. The prominent architect Philip Johnson designed the main sanctuary building, which was constructed using over 10,000 rectangular panes of glass and can hold 2,900 worshippers. The rectangular panes of glass are not bolted to the structure; instead they are glued to it using a silicone-based glue. This and other measures are intended to allow the building to withstand an earthquake of magnitude 8.0.

The church's 273 rank, five manual pipe organ is one of the largest in the world. Constructed by Fratelli Ruffatti and based on specifications by Virgil Fox and expanded by Frederick Swann, the instrument incorporates the large Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ built in 1962 for New York's Avery Fisher Hall, and the Ruffatti organ which had been installed in the church's previous sanctuary.     Where) Take the I-5 North into North Orange County. Continue past the 22 Freeway for approximately one mile.  Exit at Chapman Avenue. Turn left onto West Chapman Avenue. Pass under the freeway and continue for one mile. Turn left onto South Lewis Street.

Why) I have seen the Crystal Cathedral on the TV show The Hour of Power on many different Sunday mornings.  Every time I see it I want to go there.  This is one Buckys that I was not going to miss.

This is the only picture I took of the Cathedral itself.  The most impressive views are inside and I didn't feel comfortable going in.

I don't mind showing you someone else's picture though.

I did like this sculpture that I saw on the campus.

Especially when viewed from this angle.

The campus is nicely landscaped.  I spent a pleasant 10 minutes lying underneath these trees.

I saw this sign and I had to take a picture of it.
