What) Renaissance Center (also known as the GM Renaissance Center and nicknamed the RenCen) is a group of seven interconnected skyscrapers in Downtown Detroit. Located on the International Riverfront, the Renaissance Center complex is owned by General Motors as its world headquarters. The central tower, the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, is the tallest all-hotel skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere, and features the largest rooftop restaurant, Coach Insignia. It has been the tallest building in Michigan since its erection in 1977. Today Renaissance Center totals 5,552,000 square feet (515,800 m2) making it one of the world's largest office complexes. (1)

    Why) This trip was my introduction to fine hotel living.  In addition to a nice room, we got bumped up to one of the higher floors thanks to a reservation mix up.  This meant that I got to enjoy a nice river view as well.
